Cleveland Museum of Natural History Expansion & Renovation

The 10-year, campus-wide transformation at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History is complete with a new 50,000-square-foot, two-floor addition to the front of the Museum, along with a new entrance, the new light-filled, 14,600-square-foot Visitor Hall, Museum Store, Café and Courtyard, transforming the campus and the visitor experience. The “Centennial Transformation Project” was delivered in several phases, including work and upgrades to the museum’s central utility plant, which was the replacement of the existing mechanical and electrical systems for the majority of the existing museum. This was followed by renovations to the Smith Environmental Courtyard, Murch Auditorium, and Fawick Lobby. A temporary science area was then created, where staff shares research & science with visitors, while new exhibit space was being constructed. The new showcase entrance for the museum consolidated visitor services into a common location and allows for two entrance ways into the museum. The area houses ticketing, coat check, restrooms, food service, retail, education space and event space for 200+ guests. The new two-story exhibition spaces include galleries, science studios, labs, the museum gift shop, and cafe.
